CARE (Conserve Adisham’s Rural Environment) is an action group based in the Parish of Adisham near Canterbury.

CARE reformed in Autumn 2022 as a result of the major threat to the rural character of the village (and the surrounding countryside) from a 3,200 home "Cooting Farm Community Garden" development that was in the city council's Draft Local Plan.

CARE is non party-political and separate from Adisham Parish Council.

CARE campaigned for this New Town (known as R1) to be dropped.

CARE met with councillors and prospective councillors from the three parties standing locally in the run up to the 2023 Local Elections. Opposition to aspects of the plan across the district was a decisive factor in a change of leadership at the council.

We also supported our neighbour Womenswold in its opposition of an estate of at least 420 houses, due to be shoe-horned into their parish (R20). This development was directly adjacent to site SAP24, an even larger development in Dover District Council's local plan, meaning 1,060 housing units would have be built in the area.

CARE will:

  • Continue to work to ensure neither the Cooting Farm "new town" proposal (R1) or the development at Womenswold (R20) are reintroduced.
  • Respond in detail to all relevant consultations.
  • Help and encourage individuals to respond in their own words. (Remember: you don't have to live or work in Adisham - or anywhere else in the district for that matter - to make a comment on the plan.) How to respond
  • Make a well-argued, rational case at the crucial Examination In Public (EiP), where CCC’s plan will be assessed for ‘soundness’ by an independent inspector.
  • Raise money if necessary to employ a specialist consultant or advocate to put our case to the inquiry.
